After 43 years on daytime, soap opera One Life to Live will broadcast its final episode today. The creation of Agnes Nixon (who also createdAll My Children), One Life to Live made its debut on ABC on July 15, 1968. The program started out as a half-hour show, and over the years expanded to 45 minutes and then to a full hour in 1978.
Agnes Nixon on creating One Life to Live:
One Life to Live focused its storylines on the happenings of the Lord family, and actress Erika Slezak, who played the powerful “Victoria Lord” since 1971, shared how her character evolved over the years:
Several of the characters from the soap will now move on to General Hospital. Actors Kassie DePaiva (“Blair”), Roger Howarth (“Todd”), Michael Easton (“John”) and Kristen Alderson (“Starr”) will resume their roles in the city of Port Charles in a storyline revolving around “Sonny Corinthos.” So although One Life to Live will not enjoy a second life as an online program, as originally planned, several of the fan favorites will still remain a part of daytime.
