As an officer in the reserves, McMahon was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. This time, he flew the OE-1 (the original Marine designation for the Cessna O-1 Bird Dog).

I had the extreme honor and pleasure of interviewing Ed several times on my radio talk show in the 1980's.

He was without a doubt the nicest gentleman who ever appeared on my show. He was a nice as anyone small or big...and he didn't have to be.

Thefirst time I called his office in Burbank, his sectretary picked up the phone and within a minute Ed was on the line. He was a sweetheart.

Altogether we did several interviews and each time was a joy.

RIP, Ed. Nicest as they come and the best second banana in the buisness.
