About This Show

From Wikipedia:

Art Linkletter's House Party, or House Party (during its final season, it became The Linkletter Show), is an American daytime variety/talk show which aired daily on CBS Radio from January 15, 1945 to October 13, 1967. It had an equally long run on CBS television from September 1, 1952 to September 5, 1969. (The soundtrack from the TV show was run the following weekday as the radio version from 1952 to 1967.)

The series was launched when producer John Guedel learned that an ad agency (representing General Electric, the original sponsor) wanted to do a new audience participation show and began pitching a series with Art Linkletter. Asked to provide an outline, Guedel and Linkletter came up with a format that would give Linkletter total freedom and allow for spontaneity.

When CBS canceled House Party, NBC picked up a new Linkletter project entitled Life With Linkletter (a title originally used for his 1950-52 ABC prime-time series) that was hosted by Art and his son Jack Linkletter. This aired on weekday afternoons from December 29, 1969 to September 25, 1970.

A new, syndicated version of House Party with Steve Doocy as host premiered on January 22, 1990. Each installment ran for an hour and was seen daily on various NBC, Group W and unaffiliated stations. The series left the air on September 14, 1990.
